NOTICE
Southern Illinois Al-Anon Family Groups does not have face to face meetings for Alateens currently. According to p. 38 in the Al-Anon/Alateen 2018-2021 Service Manual, all Alateens are welcome at any Al-Anon meetings. We recommend that Alateens download the Al-Anon app and join the on-line Alateen meetings. We also suggest they they contact District and/or WSO (World Service Office) for Alateen literature.
Alateen
Is someone's drinking bothering you?
Alateen is for you. Alateen is for young people whose lives have been affected by someone else's drinking. These twenty questions may help you decide whether Alateen is for you.
Sponsorship
Every Alateen group requires at least one, but preferably two, active and Area certified Al-Anon Members who are involved in Alateen service in order to hold a meeting. The most important role of the certified Al-Anon Members present is to assure that the Safety and Behavioral Requirements are in place. Although Alateen members run their own meetings, the certified Al-Anon member has an an active role in the meeting, providing a model for appropriate participation in the meeting, based on his/her own years of experience in Al-Anon. While the certified Al-Anon Members Involved in Alateen Service (sometimes referred to as Sponsors) are a resource for the group, Alateen members are personal "sponsors" for each other.
Visit the Alateen Sponsorship Information page of our website for more information on Alateen Sponsorship requirements and responsibilities.
Visit the Alateen Sponsorship Information page of our website for more information on Alateen Sponsorship requirements and responsibilities.
Alateen members meet in church halls, school rooms or other suitable places (many times in the same building as an Al-Anon group, but in a separate room). Visit our Alateen Meetings page for times and locations.
Alateen Literature
Members are encouraged to read Al-Anon and Alateen Conference-Approved Literature and materials. Written from members' personal sharings, these recovery tools can help young people deal with their problems.
